Adam King, the Saints Development Officer, joined us on Weds and explained the support that the Premiership team can offer local clubs.
20 coaches from mini’s to senior joined took part in a lively session covering everything from the latest Coaching techniques to the Development Pathways open to the potential stars of the future.

Adam covers a huge area with 60 clubs but offered to deliver coaching sessions, help ‘coach the coaches’ and offered to arrange player visits to the club.

There was a wide ranging discussion that generated a number of excellent ideas and was a great opportunity for coaches from different teams and from both Casuals and Rugby St Andrews to swap experiences over a drink and a pizza.

There is a big increase in emphasis in supporting local clubs from Saints and other highlights include reaching out to schools to encourage new players. The ‘Project Rugby’ scheme will partner with clubs with ‘Activate’ sessions to get players to join up and get playing! Clubs were invited to host Coaching Camps and there is the opportunity for some coaches to observe and get involved with their flagship Residential Camp at Stowe School in the Summer.

There is also a series of CPD opportunities being run by top Saints personnel like Phil Dowson and Chris Boyd.

A number of other ideas came up to increase involvement and to help generate additional club income. It was a fun and very useful evening and all agreed the start of a much closer working relationship.

Many thanks, Adam – we look forward to working with you!
