Away at St. Ives is never an easy trip, but Long Buckby started as they left off at Bugbrooke last week. Excellent defence with some big hits setting the tone for the match.
Long Buckby managed a very large St. Ives pack well, and with parity at scrum time were able to launch promising attacks throughout the half, but without much reward. Long Buckby’s line out was particularly impressive, taking ball from the oppositions throw regularly with David Wardle dominating.
A 7 point lead at half time from a strong Dan Howarth break seemed a little down on what was deserved.
Second half saw St. Ives try to wrestle back some control but an opportunistic try from Jake Toseland gave Long Buckby breathing space. A few penalties from Ryan Clarke stretched the lead to 18, before St. Ives rallied for a single try of their own, but Long Buckby again kept St. Ives in their own half for much of the time and were able to see the game out.
The team was supported by a good number of travelling support which was greatly appreciated by the whole playing squad and coaching team.
A good win on the road with plenty more to come from Buckby.
Many thanks to our roving reporter, John Draper.
