B&StA's began 2019 with a home fixture against Bugbrooke. It proved to be a cracking game of rugby with some great bits of skill and teamwork shown by both sides in a full on game. Typically it fell to David to set the tone with the first tackle of the day forcing a knock on with a crunching tackle straight from the kick off. This led to a sustained period of Buckby pressure and despite getting over the line twice B&StA's were held up.
Bugbrooke then worked there way down field and from a scrum went blind and their 10 had too much pace for Daniel to cover as he sliced through the gap.
B&StA's then fought back, Matty went close and probably should have held on instead of attempting a pass but the ball was recovered and shortly after David powered over from close to the line.
A fine covering tackle from Jacob stopped a break just as it looked like Bugbrooke were going to get round our defense but it was
Bugbrooke who scored again as they read an attempted inside ball like a book and intercepted to go in unopposed and leave a straight forward conversion which was duly slotted for the only successful kick of the afternoon.
Back game B&StA's with David again scoring from the back of a maul about 10 meters out line. Not sure how much help having Dan trying to drive him on through the attempted tacklers was but every little helps!
Leo was then really close to a score but knocked on at the line.
10 -12 to Bugbrooke at half time.
The 2nd half saw more good play from both sides but with B&StA's having more players it perhaps started to tell towards the end.
David scored again and was a menace all game. Aidan marked his first appearance of the season with a well taken try after Bugbrooke had scrambled a clearance kick over his head but Aidan ran it back with interest and finished in the far corner.
Another Bugbrooke try ensured it was always tight but sustained pressure eventually told with Jack FS bagging a well deserved try in true flanker fashion by tiding up a loose ball near the line.
There were many other "highlights" over the match with some fine tackles from Kanye and others and a some good kicking from hand from John when needed.
Overall a very enjoyable match to watch between to pretty evenly matched sides.
25 - 17 at the final whistle.
