Long Buckby RFC

8 - 16

(HT 0-0)

Harbury RFC

Well that was quite a challenge – I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a big athletic side! Harbury had several players who wouldn’t have looked out of place in an u15s side both in terms of size and skills but our lads showed incredible spirit and competed very bravely on a day with a biting wind.

In the end Harbury won coming out something like 16 – 8 but I think we can say it was more impressive than last week’s 14 – 4 win aginst South Leicester.

With 20+ players to choose from, we played their biggest side in the first game and although we showed some threat in attack we were completely skittled and conceded 8 tries.

The remaining 3 games were much closer although a cumulation of heavy knocks meant we ran out of subs by the 3rd game and Harbury sportingly lent a couple of players who helped considerably.

I think we learnt a lot about how brave this side is. The Harbury coaches were very complementary about how we stuck at it and the boys should be proud of themselves.

They’ll probably never be that much smaller than the opposition if they play for the next 20 years!

Both sides’ supporters were tremendous and helped make an exciting morning’s rugby. Congratulations to Harbury for a fine performance.
