Tries: Dave Allen, Macca, Sam Doran, Tim Lewis
Pens: Macca x 1
Cons: Macca x 3, Callum x 1
Two breakaway tries by the home team and a massive effort up front saw the home side post a crucial try bonus point win.
Many in the crowd were still taking their places after the VP’s lunch when the visitors struck after Buckby failed to gather the first kick of the game.
Buckby have dominated games before without putting points on the board and this has meant languishing dangerously close to the relegation zone. This time was different - there was more creativity in attack and the kicking game was put to good effect in the first half with Dave Allen scoring a cracker in the corner with Macca adding the extras. Coalville hit back scoring through the forwards and continued to run through the phases before Macca sharply intercepted and ran the length of the pitch – a feat he repeated 5 minutes later, this time conserving energy and feeding speedster, Sam Doran to end the half up at 21 – 10.
Coalville were now going up the hill and into the wind, except nobody told the players. They put Buckby under serious pressure before Macca kicked a key penalty to steady the ship.
The home crowd were dismayed when a try was conceded despite the Coalville scrum twice escaping sanction after being comprehensively destroyed 5ms out. They followed up with another through the forwards and suddenly it was a 2 point game and it looked like Buckby would once again fade in the final quarter.
No way! The forwards were kicked down into coffin corner and Noodle potted a try at the death with Callum icing the cake for a welcome and well deserved win.
